In moving forward with my project I found it necessary to seek out a top program in the state that has a history of excellence in orchestrating a partnership between Emporia State education majors and USD #253. The dean of our education department at Central Christian personally knows Dr. Ken Weaver, dean of ESU Teachers College and Dr. Allen has given his blessing to get going on my project with ESU.
My hope is to develop an improved substainable pilot partnership between CCC education students and an elem. school in McPherson. I'm excited to set up my first visit in the near future with Dr. Weaver and his staff of professors.
Here are a couple of quotes from the website:
"Emporia State's Teachers College is recognized by the US Department of Ed. as one of only three models for teacher education. It recently earned reaccreditation from NCATE, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Ed."
As the new dean of The Teachers College, Dr. Ken Weaver looks forward to engage our students, faculty, staff and alumni as well as our P-12 partners in USD 253 and throughout the state, our community and elected officals to create new opportunities for excellence.
When checking out the link below you'll learn he is currently president of the Kansas Association of Colleges for Teacher Ed. and has written more than 50 articles etc.

ReplyDeleteI have a personal connection with Dr. Weaver. When I was in my undergraduate psychology at Emporia State University I was nearing completion of my psych degree. It was a big deal for me, the first one in my family to even attend a four year college. Well anyway, I was taking Psych Stats as a summer course because I knew it would be difficult for me. It was the first course in the actual psych classes that was not clicking with me. It was taught by Dr. Weaver. Early on he assessed that It was an area that was difficult for me.
Dr. Weaver took time out of his already extremely busy schedule. He was dean of Psychology at that time, and would have me come in his office for one-on-one tutoring to make sure I was successful and going to be able to get through his class. He was a graduate of Columbia University and his expertise in the field is only equaled by his sincerity to help students learn.
I have always considered him to be a genuine educator that has nothing but good things to offer to the field of education. Personally, he helped me through a tough subject and work towards my degree. I will always be grateful for what he did for me.....
Thanks for sharing. What a powerful testimony. I'm sure he would be extremely proud of your accomplishments and dedication to the education profession. My dean at CCC has the highest regards for Dr. Weaver as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to be moving forward with a nationally recognized successful model located in Emporia, Kansas. It will be exciting to help develop this partnership between the CCC's teacher college education department and the community schools. Should be an exciting journey.
Thanks again for sharing your respect and testimony about Dr. Weaver.
Keep us posted on what emerges, Melinda!
ReplyDeleteI certainly will. It's powerful to think we could impact p-12 students and provide a year long internship for senior education majors.
ReplyDeleteMore to come...
PS-Everyone of my classroom management students wanted to know why I waited so long to have you come and speak to them! They're an honest group and shared this comment sincerely.
Thanks again!
